Projects

Objective

In 2019 Cascade was appointed to advise on the stakeholder engagement and community consultation for the proposed redevelopment of the East Oxford Community Centre and the associated enabling residential developments in Collins St, Princes St and Catherine St.

Our role

The proposed redevelopment included the demolition of the partially disused Oxfordshire Chinese Community & Advice Centre and the Fusion Arts building, to then replace them with a new three-storey building featuring purpose-built flexible community space and office space.

As a key facility in an area of the city with a diverse and vibrant community, Cascade worked with the Council and appointed project team to implement a comprehensive, inclusive and accessible programme of engagement to ensure the feedback and needs of the community would play a key role in the development of the plans.

Impact

Alongside advising on traditional channels for engagement, including a community newsletter which was published in a variety of languages, and consultation events in September and November 2019, Cascade also led the development of a digital engagement strategy to ensure the consultation reached a wider local audience.

“The project’s development has benefitted from the thoughtful input of local residents, community groups and the centre’s tenants.” – Councillor Marie Tidball (Former Oxford City Councillor and Cabinet Member for Supporting Local Communities (2016-2022) – currently Labour candidate for MP, Penistone and Stocksbridge)
