Projects

Objective

Cascade was appointed by Bouygues UK to deliver a public consultation and political and stakeholder engagement for plans to redevelop Stanmore College in Harrow.

Our role

In order to build support for the project from both political and local stakeholders, Cascade devised and implemented a detailed programme of engagement with politicians, stakeholder groups, and the wider community.

Our team worked to identify and contact stakeholder groups, such as The Stanmore  Society to present the proposal for the College and address their concerns regarding the construction and operation of the new building. Our team also worked with a skilled project team including Montagu Evans, Jestico + Whiles, and NVB Landscape to deliver a well-attended and high-quality public consultation at the College.

Impact

Councillors were invited to give their views on the approach to consultation and engagement with key local groups and were incredibly supportive of the project from the outset. This was incredibly important ahead of the wider public consultation, and allowed the project team to engage with local groups knowing that the plans were supported in principle.

Given the location of the site, early engagement was also sought with The Stanmore Society and other local groups to discuss the plans.

The consultation for the redevelopment of Stanmore College included:

  • A community newsletter, outlining the proposals, planned public consultation and how to get involved – delivered by Royal Mail to over 800 properties.
  • A dedicated website page which was updated throughout the project.
  • A public exhibition event at Stanmore College in June 2023, attended by more than 50 staff and local residents.
  • Use of virtual reality goggles and CGIs to showcase the plans for the College.

As a direct result of the above, proactive engagement with near neighbours and the community, the proposals were granted unanimous planning consent by London Borough of Harrow’s Planning Committee.
